A first step...
Ok, first post, never easy. But every worthwhile conversation has started with a first sentence, so let's jump right in.
What's this blog about?
Primarily it can serve as a container to explore thoughts on the big questions of Life. What is Spirituality? Is there such a things a time? Do we exist as a discrete entity? If so, where do we come from and why do we have Consciousness? Would Buddha have subscribed to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum physics? That sort of thing.
Why Dharma Exchange?
Well, I really wanted to call it Dharma Dialogues, but believe it or not that was taken. The Sanskrit term Dharma represents to me a "higher truth" or ultimate reality of the universe. Just what we might be pondered in this blog. A full discourse on dharma and what is ultimately knowable is probably a post of its own.
Who is posting?
Although I have grown up in a Christian culture with Lutheran and Catholic influences, it didn't serve me much to explore authentic Spirituality. A deep interest in meditation has brought me to Buddhism, especially Zen. Quantum physics and the philosophy of science build a second pillar of exploration. This will dominate my writings.
But the blog is called "exchange" so I am inviting my anonymous friend to share his valuable reflections. My hope is that a fruitful dialogue will begin and I can learn more about viewpoints of the Islamic Sufi tradition.
What style is the blog in?
As for the organization of the blog, open thoughts as an expression of wonder work well. None of the spiritual concepts can be "known" by the mind, so there is no correcting of, just reflecting on a post. The labels can denote either a specific topic (such as "Consciousness") or a type of posting (such as "Concept", "Question", etc). Sometimes it helps in conversation to track some factual items such as terminology, definitions, history, so that is valid, too. Finally, I like good quotes, so those are always welcome, best with a reference and a label "Quote".
So, that's basically it for a first post. Let's give it a shot!
